2021 SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific – Qualifier 2: Notice of Race

Entries open for the SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific – Qualifier 2 at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club 20/21st March 2021

Fresh off the relaunch of the SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific with the first Qualifier held at Mornington Yacht Club (6/7th Feb) videos HERE, we are pleased to formally open entries and publish the Notice of Race for the second Qualifier for the 2021 SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific Series.

The SCL is the premier club vs club worldwide completion with over 300 clubs and 23 Nations all competing for the title of best club.  The format is short course umpired fleet racing in a supplied fleet of new RS21 boats.  Racing is short and sharp and will be directly off the river’s edge to engage with the public.  Being supplied boats the SCL targets ALL clubs large and small as a level playing field to see which clubs have the best sailors.

The top 8 Open and 8 U22 (youth) teams from (NT/ACT/NSW/QLD) will gain automatic selection for the SCL Final (Open & U22) which is scheduled for the end of the April School holidays at Cockatoo Island, Sydney harbour which intern is the pathway for clubs to go onto take on the best clubs in the World at the SCL World Final’s in October 2021 (Open Final in Porto Cervo & Women’s Final in Portugal). Subject to travel restrictions we would love to again see a club from Asia Pacific take out the crown just as RSYS did in 2019.

Clubs and sailors are already preparing teams and building upon the experience gained from the past two seasons, and now these clubs and many others can formally lock in their entries.  There have also been some changed made for 2021 including that all teams are to be made of 2 male & 2 female crew however U22 (youth teams may have an additional 5th crew member.

We are keen for all clubs to be a part of this exciting new series.  Online entry forms and the Notice of Race can be found HERE and please note that payment of the entry fee is not required upfront thus we encourage all clubs and teams to submit their entry first and then you have time to raise funding / support to get to the start line.  Entries can be made by clubs (to then select their own team (often clubs will support the U22 team), or directly by sailors who pull together their own team to sail under their club’s burgee and the event is open to all ages.

In order to confirm your entry please review the Notice of Race and complete the entry form. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Event Director, Mark Turnbull directly and if you have not already please see the following two short videos.

We look forward to speaking with you further and seeing your club on the start line in 2021.
