2021 SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific – Qualifier 1: Notice of Race

Entries open for the SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific – Qualifier 1 at Mornington Yacht Club 6/7th February 2021

Rebuilding from 2020, we are pleased to formally open entries and publish the Notice of Race for the first Qualifier event for the 2021 SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific Series.  As previously announced this Qualifier 1 (WA/SA/TAS/VIC clubs) has moved from Geelong to Mornington and from this event the first eight teams in both U22 and Open will qualify for the SAILING Champions League: Asia Pacific – FINALS (U22 & Open) to be held in Sydney in April.

Clubs have already started preparing teams and building upon the experience gained from the past two seasons, and now these clubs and many others can formally lock in their entries.  There have also been some changed made for 2021 including that all teams are to be made of 4 crew (2 male & 2 female) in both U22 and Open divisions. This is the start of the pathway to go onto compete in the Asia Pacific Final in Sydney this April and then take on the best clubs in the worlds in Porto Cervo, Italy in October.

We are keen for your club to be a part of this exciting new series.  Online forms for entry are HERE and the Notice of Race available HERE.  Entries can be made by clubs (to then select their own team), or directly by sailors who pull together their own team to sail under their clubs burgee.

The format of the Qualifier 1 (Southern) is that it is open to all clubs in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria to send teams to represent their club in this fully umpired fleet racing in small keelboats comprising of up to 30 heats (12-15min per race) and culminating in a top four final series. Teams will compete in a new fleet of six supplied RS21’s (the official boat of the NSL events) charter is included in the entry fee and thus it is a true step on / step off regatta. The event is open to all ages and sailing backgrounds from dinghy sailors to keelboat sailors all competing on a level playing field.

In order to confirm your entry please review the Notice of Race and complete the entry form. Confirmation of acceptance of your entry will be made once full payment of entry fee is received. However, should you have any questions or concerns please contact Event Director, Mark Turnbull directly and if you have not already please see the following two short videos.

We look forward to speaking with you further and seeing your club on the start line in 2021.
